Vehicles seized, drivers arrested as motoring offences detected by local gardaí

Cavan Roads Policing Unit encounters busy bank holiday weekend.

Three drivers in breach of the Road Traffic Act in Cavan over the weekend have been charged and will appear before the courts after they were detected by gardaí.

One driver was discovered “highly intoxicated” on Bridge Street in Cavan Town and Gardaí say that after he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, the motorist refused to comply with requirements to provide samples.

Meanwhile, gardaí discovered a disqualified driver after being stopped on Farnham Street. The car was detained under Section 41 Road Traffic Act. Following a search, gardaí discovered numerous driving licences in the motorist’s possession.

The items were seized; the driver was arrested, charged under the Road Traffic Act, and will appear in court over the next few weeks. Over the weekend, Cavan Roads Policing Unit stopped a car on the Old Bridge Road in Cootehill.

The L-permit motorist was driving unaccompanied, had no NCT and their insurance policy had been cancelled. A roadside oral test proved positive for cannabis. The driver was arrested and blood samples taken for further analysis while the car was detained under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
