Cavan County Council has signed contracts with local firm Crosserlough Construction for the delivery of 13 social homes in two separate developments in Kilnaleck.
The project consists of two developments: Clós Chill na Leice, at Main Street, Kilnaleck on the site of the former Briody Hardware premises. The second, Radharc na Beairice is located at Barrack Road, Kilnaleck.
Clós Chill na Leice will see the demolition, renovation, and extension of an existing two-storey building and construction of a new building to provide eight one-bed maisonette units.
Radharc na Beairice consists of four new bungalows, and refurbishment and extension of an existing bungalow to deliver four two-bed units and one three-bed unit.
The lead designer on the project is Cavan firm Wynne, Gormley, Gilsenan Architects, and other contractors involved include Renaissance Engineering, Alan Traynor Consulting Engineers, and Walsh Associates Quantity Surveyors.
Speaking following the contract signing, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr TP O’Reilly said: “I’m delighted to sign contracts with Crosserlough Construction for the delivery of these 13 homes, which will reinvigorate the core of Kilnaleck and provide high quality homes for those who need them most.”
Chief Executive (CE), Cavan County Council, Eoin Doyle pointed to how the developments are “particularly pleasing” because they provide security, safety, and a fresh start for 13 families and individuals. “This also sees a significant construction contract awarded to a local firm, with design work also being carried out locally, ensuring that local jobs are being supported, and boosting the local economy,” he continued.
“Many individuals have worked tirelessly to bring this project to the stage where we could sign contracts, and in that regard, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Acting Director of Service Lynda McGavigan, Senior Engineer John Wilson, Senior Project Manager Jonathan Condell, and Project Manager Brendan McGourty for their efforts, as well our elected members who stalwart in their support for our drive to deliver much-needed social housing.
Meanwhile, construction on the two developments - which have a total construction cost of €2.67M excluding VAT - is expected to commence in December with an estimate completion date of Q2 2026.
