SPC scheme adoption deferred

Members of Cavan County Council have opted to defer until November the approval of the draft Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) scheme.

The scheme for the establishment of SPCs in Cavan has been prepared by the Chief Executive, in consultation with the Cathaoirleach and the designated chairs of the SPCs, having regard to the guidelines issued by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

There are five SPCs in Cavan, which will run for duration of the local government term, 2024-29. They include SPCs for Economic Development, Enterprise and Planning; Climate and Biodiversity

Action & Environment; Transportation, Infrastructure and Emergency Services; Housing, Social Inclusion & Corporate Services; Cultural Development, Irish Language and Sport.

Membership of the SPCs is made up of elected members and representatives of the various stakeholders and members of community and voluntary organisations active throughout the county.

Speaking at the October monthly meeting, and prior to the deferal, Sinn Féin's Stiofán Conaty welcomed that Irish language groups in Cavan would have representation.

It was also stated that one final meeting of the Corporate Policy Group would take place in the interim.
