Cavan anti-war protest held
Members of the Truth and Neutrality Alliance, an Irish anti war and pro-neutrality group, joined members of the Muslim community in Cavan recently to protest “Israeli and NATO countries misadventures” in the Middle East.
Speakers at the event highlighted the current crisis in Palestine, Lebanon, and the potential for even broader conflict with more serious implications if the current conflict continues.
Bill O’Brien spoke on behalf the Truth and Neutrality Alliance. He gave a historic overview of how the Israeli State was formed on lands that once belonged to the Palestinian people.
He also castigated role of the US and Britain in supplying military hardware.
Also in attendance was the newly formed Eire Nua, an Irish republican group founded after splitting from Republican Sinn Féin by members mainly based across the border region.
The western mainstream media narrative was scorned and a belief expressed that the death toll from Israel’s invasion of Gaza and now Lebanon is being underreported and “badly skewed”.
The protest concluded when Adi, a spokesperson for the Muslim community in Cavan, condemned Israel’s genocide of Palestinians, and the US and UK’s complicity in their slaughter.
He also encouraged everyone to boycott any multinationals or large companies linked to Israel.
