Gardaí investigate threat related to Cavan General

Gardaí stepped up security at Cavan General Hospital this morning in response to "a threat".

The "enhanced security" was called off at noon however after it was deemed not credible.

In a statement to the Celt, gardaí confirmed an investigation is underway into the incident.

"Gardaí were made aware of a threat relating to Cavan General Hospital yesterday, Tuesday 22nd October 2024.

"An Garda Síochána, in conjunction with the H.S.E. (Cavan General Hospital), immediately put in place enhanced security measures at that facility as a precautionary measure.

"Following further enquiries, the alleged threat has been deemed not to be credible and the enhanced security arrangements in place have been stood down as of 12 noon today, Wednesday 23rd October 2024.

"The criminal investigation of this matter is ongoing at this time."
