Bereavement notices for Cavan and Monaghan

It is with regret that we note the following deaths from Counties Cavan and Monaghan over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie.

Seamus Mc Aveety

Furnaceland Gardens, Swanlinbar, Cavan

Died peacefully on October 13, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at Cavan General Hospital. Son of the late Joe and Molly, brother of the late Joe and Philip (who died in infancy), deeply regretted by his loving children Gerard (Elaine), Seamus (Aileen), Christopher (Caroline), Martha (Gerard) and Louis, their mother Anna, grandchildren Annabelle, Ciara, Christopher Max, Molly. Ellen, Áine, Keelin, Savannah, and Hanna, brother Fealy (Caroline) sisters Maureen (John), Geraldine (Tommy), Janey (Paul), Teresa (Gerard) and Susie, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

His remains will leave his home on Tuesday 15th October at 7pm on foot to arrive to Saint Mary's Church, Swanlinbar at 7.30pm. Mass of the Resurrection on Wednesday at 11am followed by burial in Killaduff Cemetery. House strictly private at all times.

Bernadette (Bernie) Mc Govern (née Maguire)

Derryginny, Ballyconnell, Cavan/ Killesher, Co. Fermanagh

Died October 12th 2024 peacefully in the Beacon Hospital, Dublin. Predeceased by her beloved husband Terence, mother Mary & father Patrick Maguire. Adored and much loved by her daughters Sinead & Eiméar and their husbands Scott and Neill and her grandsons Donnacha and Éanna.

Loved and sadly missed by her sons Turlough, Ruairí, Fionáin & Darragh. She will be very sadly missed by her brothers, sisters, extended family, neighbours and friends. Remains will be reposing in Lawlor's Funeral Home, Erne Hill, Belturbet (H14R583) on Tuesday evening from 5-8pm. Removal on Wednesday morning from her residence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ballyconnell for Funeral Mass celebration of her life at 12 o'clock. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Bridget Sheridan (née Smith)

'The Bridge', Carlanstown Village, Kells, Co Meath / Cavan / Pottlebane, Carnaross, Co. Meath

Died peacefully, at The Mater Hospital, Dublin, surrounded by her heartbroken family. Predeceased by her sister Mary (Baby) Connolly. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her beloved husband Stephen (Stevie), her cherished children, Stephanie (Fintan), Terence (Audrey), John (Sonya), Carol, Emma, Paul and Mark (Rosa), her adored grandchildren, brother Phil (Pilly) (Ann) and sisters Eilish Smith and Geraldine Shaw, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends. Reposing on Tuesday evening at The Village Chapel Of Rest, Mullagh A82DE28 from 6-8pm. Removal from her home on Wednesday morning at 11.15am to The Church of The Assumption, Ballinlough via Pottlebane to arrive for Requiem Funeral Mass at 12 noon followed by Private Family only Cremation service in Lakelands Crematorium, Dublin Road, Cavan. Mary Dorothy (Dot) Gilmartin (née Mc Gourty)

No 10 The Drumlins, Virginia and formerly Drumlark, Cavan

Died Saturday October 12th 2024, peacefully in the loving care of her family and the staff at Esker Lodge Nursing Home, Cavan, in her 100th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Paddy, her parents Charles and Roseanne, brothers Michael John and Charles and her grandson Gerald Clarke.

Mary will be very sadly missed by her loving family Joe (Anne), Letterkenny, Anne (Vincie), Killinkere, Maura (Donal), Killarney and Noel (Ann), Cavan, her adored grandchildren Niall, Brian, Aoife, Emer, Aodghan, Doireann, Aidan, David and Catherine, great grandchildren Patrick, Peter, Annakate, Darcy, Wren, Cara, Liam, Sadhbh, Mylo, Louis, Pippa, Evie, Callie and Kyla, nephews, nieces, all her extended family, good neighbours and wide circle of good friends. May she rest in peace.

Removal on Monday morning at 10.30am to St. Aidan's Church, Butlersbridge, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11 o'clock. Burial afterwards in St.Aidan's Cemetery, Butlersbridge. Carricknashoke, Stradone, Cavan

Died Friday, October 11th, peacefully at Cavan General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his wife Kathleen and sister Ena.

Paud will be very sadly missed by his loving family, son PJ and daughters Noeleen, Eileen, Agnes and Claire, daughter in law Pauline, sons in law Eddie, Tony and Andrew, his adored grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours, and many friends. May He Rest in Peace.

Died Friday, October 11th, suddenly. Formerly of VW Group Ireland. Predeceased by his father Noel. Aidan will be sadly missed by his heartbroken son and daughter, Otto and Anke, by his mother Brenda, his wife Georgina, his sister Eimeàr, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, niece, aunts, uncles, extended family, friends and neighbours.

Josephine (Josie) McCAGUE (née Corbett)

Santry, Dublin / Drombane, Tipperary / Monaghan

Josephine (Josie) McCague, nee Corbett, Santry Close, Dublin 9 and formerly of Roskeen, Drombane, Co. Tipperary, Deputy Principal Retired St. Colmcille’s, BNS, Swords, died October 10th 2024, peacefully in the gentle care of SignaCare, Bunclody, Co. Wexford.

Beloved wife of the late Jim and predeceased by her infant son James. Sadly missed by her sister Philomena Newman (Templemore), sister-in-law Tessie Clerkin (Monaghan), nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, great-grandnieces, cousins, neighbours, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her siblings Paddy, Willie, Kathleen and Teresa. May she Rest in Peace.

Reposing at her home on Monday from 12 noon to 8pm. Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10am at the Blessed Margaret Ball Church, Santry. Burial afterwards in Dardistown Cemetery.

Sean Hughes

Beechgrove Lawns, Monaghan Town, Monaghan

The death occurred of Sean Hughes on Thursday October 10th, peacefully at Drumbear Lodge, Nursing Home, Monaghan surrounded by his loving daughters Caroline and Sharon. Predeceased by his parents James and Kathleen, brothers Gussie, Sean (Infant), Eddie and Desmond.

Sean deeply regretted and remembered with love by his loving family, daughters Caroline (Sherry) and Sharon, their mother Christine, brothers Harry and Malachy, son in-law Paul, his cherished grandchildren Caolúm, Ryan, Amy, Daithí, Shannon and Tyler, sisters in-law Rose and Ann, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbours and many friends. May he Rest in Peace.

Sean's funeral cortège will arrive to St Macartans Cathedral, Monaghan on Monday afternoon for funeral mass at 1:30pm, followed by private cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

HUGH CAHILL

Kilkeel, Down / Monaghan

Died October 11 2024, peacefully in hospital, HUGH, dearly beloved husband of Caitlin (McAuley), loving father of Ciaran and Diarmuid, father-in-law of Melissa and Elaine and devoted grandfather to Oran, Daire, Mel, Siofra and Fionn. Predeceased by his brothers Rt. Rev. Mons. Sean Cahill (St. Michael's Enniskillen), Fr. Martin Cahill (St. Patrick's Ballyshannon) and Matthew Cahill (Monaghan).

Sadly missed by his loving wife and family, brother Owen (Pauline), nieces and nephew, relatives and a large circle of friends.

Jane M. McDonagh (née Kelly)

Drumcargy, Carrickmacross, Monaghan

Jane (Roísín) McDonagh (née Kelly) of Bronxville, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on October 9, 2024. The second youngest of 9 children, she was born in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ireland to John and Bridget Kelly.

Jane is predeceased by her husband Martin, parents John and Bridget, siblings Bernard, Sean, Eileen, and Briege. She is survived by her sisters Mary, Ann, Patricia, and Susan, and many relatives here and abroad. Jane spent her final days at her Bronxville home under the care of her sister Susan and beloved nephews Frank and John Paul.

Visitation will be held at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville, NY, from 4-8pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Bronxville, NY, on Wednesday October 16, 2024, at 10:45am followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Paul Callaghan

Coolderry, Carrickmacross, Meath / Carrickmacross, Monaghan

Paul passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family in his 91st year, on 13th October, 2024. Beloved husband of Bridie, adored father of his daughter Bríd, sons Francis, John, Paul and his late son Michael who passed away in 2021.

Pre-deceased by his parents Francis and Anne, sister Chris, brothers Frankie, Pat, Gerry and grandson Harry. Lovingly remembered by his sisters Margaret and Nancy, brother Bren, sister-in-law Betty, his adored grandchildren Tom, Charlie, Laurel, Sophia, Paudie, Mairéad, Caoimhe, his daughters-in-law Niamh and Eimear, son-in-law Joe (Glackin), extended family and dear friends in Meath Hill and beyond.

Reposing at Kieran Bros. Funeral Home, Hall Street, Kingscourt, on Tuesday, 15th October, from 5pm to 8pm. Paul’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 16th October at 11am in St. Patrick and St. Brigid’s Church, Meath Hill, followed by burial in Drumconrath Cemetery. Paul’s Funeral Mass will be streamed on Kieran Bros Funeral Care
