A mainly dry start to Sunday but cloud will gradually thickening from the Atlantic through the day leading to patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle by afternoon.

That rain is expected to turn heavier and more persistent during Sunday evening, with highest temperatures 8 to 10 degrees in Ulster, several degrees lower than much of the rest of the country.

“Light to moderate southeast to east breezes will be fresh to strong near coasts. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, coolest in Ulster,” predicts Met Eireann.

Any remaining overnight rain will though clear eastwards on Monday morning, gradually brighten up with sunny spells developing and just isolated showers.
