Lifeline added due to water upgrade works in Co Monaghan
€32M investment underway in Carrickmacross
Uisce Éireann has confimred that it is continuing to progress "priority issues" following decades of under-investment in the Co Monaghan water supply.
Currently, Carrickmacross is benefitting from a €32M sewerage scheme investment which is expected to benefit homes and businesses across the county.
Uisce Éireann says the project - which comprises the upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant; construction of a new pumping station; and a new 3.3km final effluent pipeline to the Longfield River - will have a plethora of benefits and ensure effective management of wastewater to protect the environment and support social and economic growth in the area.
The works will also ensure the treatment of wastewater is fully compliant with EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directives, Wastewater Discharge Licence Emission Limit Values, and will eliminate all non-compliant combined sewer overflows within the area.
Michael Tinsley, Uisce Éireann’s Senior Wastewater Delivery Manager said the company’s once-in-a-generation plan to eliminate raw sewage discharges is “on track” to bring life-changing improvement to communities around Ireland.
“Cleaner waters, greater capacity for development and an enhanced environment are just some of the benefits these projects have delivered,” he continued. “We look forward to continuing the excellent progress being made to date, while acknowledging that delays remain in some areas, particularly in relation to legal challenges to planning and other consents, which are largely outside Uisce Éireann’s control.”
