Raising funds for 'the most wonderful place'
A pop-up clothes sale will take place this Saturday, October 12, in Cornafean to raise funds for The Holy Family School.
The sale will bring a mix of preloved and brand new fashion items to the table, including women’s clothing from sizes 8-22, handbags, shoes, maternity wear, occasion wear and more.
One of the organisers of the event, Martina Young, who is also a parent of a child in the school, spoke to The Anglo-Celt and explained why the fundraiser is taking place.
“We can’t thank the staff, the teachers, the SNA’s, everybody who walks in the door of The Holy Family School makes it such a special place,” she said.
“It’s the most wonderful place.”
The mother of two explained that as part of Cornafean GAA club, a new health and wellbeing committee was set up. The group organised a sports club for children and young adults with additional needs. It was at this stage that members realised there were four children in the group who attend The Holy Family School.
“My daughter Dearbhla is one of them,” says Martina.
“As parents of children in The Holy Family school we realised there’s always a huge need for funds for different pieces of specialised equipment, which is very expensive for the school to buy.”
Thirteen year old Dearbhla started in the school when she was four years old.
“The day Dearbhla started school she wasn’t walking, in those nine years she has just progressed so much.
“It’s not about academics, it’s about being part of a community and being happy going to school.”
The “Mother’s & Others” group will be lending a helping hand with tea and refreshments, while the Cornafean Football Club has volunteered to manage parking, making this a true community-wide effort.
Admission to the event is €5, those who pay the admission will automatically be entered into a draw to win a spot prize. There will also be a raffle on the day with prizes donated by local businesses.
The event takes place from 11am to 2pm at Cornafean GAA grounds. The sale is a cash only event.
