Local calls to halt government's ‘scandalous’ €9M waste on mobile phone pouches

SF has moved a Dáil motion that puts pressure on Government to reverse decision.

Cavan-Monaghan TDs are being called on to “take the opportunity” next week to overturn the Government's “scandalous decision” to waste €9M on mobile phone pouches.

Sinn Féin’s Deputy Pauline Tully made the call after the party’s leader Mary Lou McDonald moved a Dáil motion putting pressure on the Government to reverse the decision, calling it “a waste of public money”.

“The €9M allocated in Budget 2025 for mobile phone pouches is a scandalous waste of taxpayers’ money, particularly at a time when schools and our children are crying out for investment in mental health supports and special education, and when schools are struggling to keep the lights on and keep buildings warm,” added Deputy Tully.

“I am calling on TDs in Cavan-Monaghan to reject this ludicrous allocation of funds and instead endorse Sinn Féin's call to invest this badly needed funding in mental health services and schools.”
