Change of heart on cardio consultant at Cavan General
Amid concerns that Cavan and Monaghan Hospital would “no longer” accept new cardiology referrals as it worked to appoint a new consultant, news has emerged that the position is to be filled on a locum basis at Cavan General Hospital.
Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith was informed this week that the post will be filled “imminently” on a locum basis, and that active recruitment is “currently underway” for a permanent Consultant Cardiologist.
Deputy Smith had submitted a parliamentary question in Dáil Éireann on the issue. In subsequent correspondence received, the HSE confirmed that a locum will be “commencing in post imminently”.
Active recruitment is currently underway for “permanent substantive post”, concluded the HSE reply.
Welcoming this latest development, Deputy Smith said he hoped the permanent position can be filled “without undue delay”.
“I know that the expansion of cardiac services in Cavan Monaghan Hospital over recent times has been extremely beneficial for patients and the hospital’s catchment area.”
