Roadworks progress in Cavan Belturbet area
Numerous works have been carried out on roads across the Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District over the last few months and an update was provided by local authority engineer, Paul Mulligan, during this month’s meeting of members at the Town Hall on in Belturbet last Friday.
Those gathered heard that road reconstruction works have been completed on the L2541 Swellan Court/Drumnavanagh; the L6626 St Patrick’s Terrace; the L2539 Glenside Road; the L1532 Drumgola-Coolboyoge (Loreto Road to N3); L5515 Raheelan-Greathill; L5045 Killymoriarty; along the L1037 Kilsob towards Templeport L5542 Drumcrow, Butlerbridge; and on the R935 former national road, N55.
Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) works have also been completed in Drumoghra.
Works are currently taking place under the Restoration Improvement Programme 2024 along Dowra’s Main Street; while others works are “substantially completed” on the L2034 Drumalee Road, Cavan; along the L5568 Creenagh Glebe; L1009 Tullynafreave; Dunmakeever; R100; and Annagh Park, Ballyconnell. The meeting heard that upcoming projects include the continuation of the Restoration Improvement schemes and Climate Adaptation & Resilience schemes; road safety measures on the R205 and R198; drainage remedial works; and referred issues.
Grass verges
Members welcomed these latest developments but Cllr John Paul Feeley (FF) highlighted how grass verges “have slipped”. While those works are under Cavan County Council’s remit, the issue is causing safety issues on the roads.
“I feel that we have slipped a little on this and now really is the time to be cutting the grass,” he remarked.
