Nine school extensions at design stage

Nine new school buildings have now reached design stage in the expansion of facilities, a meeting of the Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board heard last week.

They include Virginia College where nine classrooms are in the pipeline; Inver College, two SET rooms; Beech Hill College, six classrooms; Dun an Rí, 23 classrooms; Castleblayney College, three classrooms; and Breifne College where three additional classrooms are planned. All schools have additional facilities included at design stage.

The meeting in Monaghan also heard that four new modular classrooms were installed at St Mogue’s College over the summer months.

Cllr Aine Smith (FF), a teacher at the school, said the building was a “fantastic” addition to the setup there. “The whole community is ecstatic,” she added.

Cllr Colm Carthy (SF), meanwhile added: “There has been great work at Inver College; but the school is still under pressure and we need special classrooms as soon as possible.”

The CMETB executive highlighted its awareness of the needs across the entire catchment area. Members pointed to the developments in the pipeline and the “massive boost” it will bring to future education across Cavan and Monaghan.
