New chairman appointed to board of CMETB
He takes over from Cllr PJ O'Hanlon.
Cllr David Maxwell (FG) has been appointed chairperson of the new CMETB board, which held its first meeting at Monaghan Institute on Monday of last week.
Cllr Maxwell takes over the reins from Cllr P.J. O’Hanlon (FF) who held the position for the last 12 months. The new chair was proposed by his party colleagues Cllr Aidan Campbell (FG) and seconded by Cllr Carmel Brady (FG).
Cllr Maxwell told those gathered that he was grateful to Cllr O’Hanlon for his work over the last year.
He also pointed to the workload on the table for the next 12 months and the effort that was needed to make the gains required at CMETB.
“We have a lot of work to do,” remarked Cllr Maxwell. “We have numerous schools, centres of education, a theatre and other wings of the organisation that will require a lot of work to ensure things run smoothly, and that there is governance and provision of services.”
Meanwhile, a decision was taken by members to defer the election of a deputy chairperson until the next meeting due to confusion around political party nominations.
It was Sinn Féin’s Cllr Colm Carthy who proposed holding off after he indicated that neither he nor his colleague were aware of “proposals for leas cathaoirleach”.
The next meeting is scheduled to take place on November 12, 2024.
