Cavan ranked fifth best county in Ireland to do business in

The latest figures are based on a new study by Baldwin Digital.

Cavan has made its way into the top five counties in Ireland for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a new study has found. Experts from Baldwin Digital analysed the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on enterprises with under 50 employees in the Republic.

Each county was ranked based on the number of SMEs per 10,000 people, the percentage of SMEs in relation to all businesses, and the percentage difference in SMEs from 2019 to 2021.

Wicklow was ranked the number one county to do business in while Donegal, Tipperary and Carlow edged slightly ahead of Cavan where 16,507 SMEs are in operation. This represents 68.47% of all businesses in the county.

Meanwhile, counties Monaghan and Meath took eighth and ninth position respectively; Longford was in 13th place; and Leitrim took second last place at 25.

Mark Baldwin, director and founder of Baldwin Digital added: “Approximately 44.32% of businesses across Ireland have less than 50 staff members, with every county except Dublin and Westmeath having a higher percentage than the national average. Connacht is the only province in Ireland without a county in the top 10 ranking, with Mayo ranking highest in the region, taking 12th place overall.”
