Drug raids continue across region

Thousands of euros worth of suspected drugs have been taken off the streets following raids by members of the local drugs unit over the past seven days. In Cavan, members of the recently replenished divisional drugs unit for the county lifted dozens of bottles of cannabis oil while they were being delivered to a premises outside Belturbet on September 11.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that gardaí conducted a search under warrant at the property.

“Investigations are continuing,” said the spokesperson.

Less than 24 hours later, on September 12, the Cavan based drug squad raided a house in Virginia where they seized €11,000 worth of suspected cocaine along with a quantity of ecstasy tablets.

Drug paraphernalia was also found at the scene, and a 23-year-old male was arrested and has been charged with sale and supply.

In neighbouring Monaghan meanwhile a man in his 20s appeared in court over the weekend charged in connection with the discovery of a growhouse containing 57 cannabis plants, along with 13 vacuum bags of dried cannabis herb, worth an estimated €350,000. The discovery was made following the search of a residence in the Castleblayney area under warrant on Friday, September 13.

The seized drugs will now undergo further analysis with Forensic Science Ireland.

Meanwhile, in the Annaghlough area of Monaghan, a further €2,500 worth of cocaine was seized following a search at a residential property under warrant.

A file on that matter has now been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
