New ETB board appointed

Sitting members of the new Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board (ETB) have been appointed.

Local businessman and former Fine Gael councillor for 25 years, Peter McVitty, has been nominated onto the education authority as a community representative through his involvement with the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA).

Mr McVitty lost his seat on Cavan County Council at the June local elections, having first being elected in 1999.

His nomination was ratified at a meeting held at the CMETB Head Office in Monaghan Town on September 3, where elected members to the board appointed a male parent representative and five representatives from the nominations received from specified bodies.

Along with Mr McVitty, Lorraine Fealy and Colm McCormick were appointed to represent CMETB staff; whilst Rory McMahon represents the National Parents Council; April Anna Barker, Irish Hospitality Institute & The Restaurants Association of Ireland; Irene McCausland, Technological Higher Education Association (THEA), and Frank McDermott, Aontas.

Joe McGrath returns as the representative for the National Association of Principals & Deputy Principals (NAPD).

The National Parents Council have yet to appoint a female parent vacancy to the board.

Sitting Cavan County Councillors include Carmel Brady, Niamh Brady, and Trevor Smith (FG); Clifford Kelly and Aine Smith (FF); Brendan Fay (Ind); and Damien Brady (SF).

Monaghan council members are David Maxwell and Aidan Campbell (FG); Seamus Coyle (FF); Sinead Flynn and Colm Carthy (SF).

The first meeting of the full new CMETB Board will take place next Tuesday, September 17.
