Lydon brings spoken word tour to Cavan
Rotten luck: Townhall Cavan book punk legend for spoken word tour
Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon, has announced he is to bring his new spoken word event to Ireland next year, including an appearance at the Townhall Theatre in Cavan.
Also known as Johnny Rotten Lydon was arguably the most important figure of the punk movement that caused such a media furore in the mid 1970s. Behind the scandal though was a succession of blistering tunes including Holidays in the Sun, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK and Pretty Vacant.
Titled ‘I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right’, after the chorus of one of his Public Image Ltd (PiL) hits, it offers fans a chance to hear the outspoken personality candidly discuss his life, career, and perhaps even his thoughts on music, politics, and culture.
The intimate, unscripted conversations take place in Dundalk, Cavan, Ballybofey and Dublin, before Lydon, whose father is from Galway and mother is from Cork, heads back to the UK.
The announcement follows a successful run of “untamed, unscripted, uncensored” UK shows already this year.
Kicking off on September 10, 2025, in An Táin Arts Centre in Dundalk, the renowned frontman’s tour will also head to the Townhall Arts Centre in Cavan on September 11, 2025.
According to the official description, the tour will give fans the opportunity to hear Lydon’s stories from an extraordinary carreer “up-close-and-personal”.
Most recently his band PiL released a new album, but not before he attempted to become Ireland’s representative at the Eurovision.
Lydon’s late wife Nora Forster picked out the pink tartan suit he wore at the February performance. She sadly passed away a few months after.
Lydon holds an Irish passport and summered here with cousins during his youth.
Meet and greet, and VIP tickets, are also available.
Tickets went on sale for next year’s show last Friday, September 6.
