Who was the lucky local winner? Cavan shop sells million euro ticket

Mountnugent revealed as winning location of Monday’s €1 million Daily Million win!

There were cheers and celebrations heard throughout the village of Mountnugent in Cavan this morning after Smith’s store was announced as the selling location of Monday’s 9pm Daily Million winning ticket worth €1 million.

Shop owner Annette Smith was delighted to hear that her shop sold the life-changing ticket: “We’re a family run shop here in the village and this actually marks the biggest win that our store has ever had so it’s huge news all round.

"We are just over the moon for the winner and we can’t wait for the good news to spread as we are hoping the winner comes forward to enjoy claim their prize soon. Here’s hoping for more calls from the National Lottery in the future!”

The National Lottery has confirmed that the winner has since made contact and arrangements are now being made for the top prize winner to collect their prize in Lottery Headquarters.

The Monday night win marked the 23rd National Lottery millionaire of the year to date with the winner also taking the title of 8th Daily Million top prize winner of 2024.

The win was also the second €1 million prize won in less than a week after a Leitrim syndicate scooped €1,005,000 in Friday night’s special EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle.

The syndicate were thrilled to pop into Lottery Headquarters to pick up their life-changing amount which they won in the Friday 6th September draw after purchasing their winning ticket at the Spar store on the Main Street in Kinlough.

The Leitrim winners admitted that they did not realise that there was a special draw taking place on the night of their win and they assumed they had won the usual €5,000 Raffle prize.

“When I checked the ticket, it said that I had won big but it didn’t say they amount. Of course I went checking the results so my initial thought was that we had won the €5,000 Raffle amount but then I saw about the promotion for Four More Millionaires and realized just what we had won.

"The biggest challenge was convincing the rest of the syndicate that I wasn’t having them on. I think one of the responses I got was Shut the front door! The next thing to do is celebrate together!”

Last Friday’s draw kicked off a special promotion for the month of September which guarantees to see €1 million won across four weekends throughout the month in the EuroMillions draws on Friday 6th, 13th and 20th September and another in the Lotto Plus Raffle draw on Saturday 28th of September.

Meanwhile, a Tellybingo player in Wexford was still in shock popping into the Winners Room to collect a Snowball prize worth €50,005 which they won in the Friday 6th September draw.

Their winning ticket was purchased at Maxol Bellefield in Enniscorthy.

“You probably won’t believe this but I only started playing Telly Bingo five weeks ago so this is total beginners luck! I have had a few wins so far in the game between Lucky lines and Four corners so it’s been great but getting the Snowball was unexpected.

"There were about 10 winners waiting on just one number when I was playing on Friday afternoon. It was down to the final number and my luck was most definitely in! My motto has always been that if you’re not in, you can’t win and look how true that’s proved to be.”
