Information sought on spate of burglaries

Break-ins across Cavan and Monaghan.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in relation to recent burglaries, including two in the Killeshandra area and others in Bailieborough and Virginia last month.

Both occurred on August 14, the first between 8am and 2pm in the townland of Portaliffe, where the homeowner returned to find a small sum of money and a new pair of Asics runners stolen.

The second burglary occurred between 1am and 8.30pm oin the townland of Aghavadrin where intruders prised open a rear window to gain entry.

A three stone engagement ring, a sovereign on a chain and a blue stone ring were stolen.

Three more break-ins are being investigated by gardaí in Bailieborough.

On August 23, between the hours of 2.30am and 2:45am, the front window of the coffee hut at the Lakeside Manor, Dublin Road, Virginia, was smashed and an empty cash box was taken.

Between 5am and 5:15am that same morning gardaí responded to an alarm activationat Tunnyduff National School where a classroom window was broken and the office ransacked.

Again the intruders went away empty handed.

Finally, at White Gate fuels, Edenburt on the N3, three males were observed trying to gain entry to the shop. They were unsuccessful and left.

In connection with all three break-ins Gardaí are anxious to trace the movements of a white-coloured BMW estate vehicle seen driving in the area.

It follows a spate of burglaries in the Carrickmacross/Castleblayney areas earlier in the month.

Two burglaries took place in the Carrickmacross area on Wednesday, August 7.

One house was broken into in the Lisanisk area between 2am and 8am where two cars were stolen during- a black Kia Sportage and a grey Hyundai Toscon; while jewellery was taken from a house at Magheross Drive in Carrickmacross on August 8.

In the Castleblayney area, Gardaí are continuing to investigate the theft of gardening equipment between 11am on Saturday, August 24, and 9am on Sunday, August 25.

A lawnmower and a strimmer were stolen after a garden shed was broken into.
