Night Walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society

Boots Ireland has partnered with influencer and mum-of-three Rachel Gorry to launch this year’s Boots Night Walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing service. Irish Cancer Society Night Nurses provide end-of-life care for cancer patients, allowing them to spend their final days at home surrounded by family and loved ones, as well as giving much needed respite for the family caring for them. The service is free to people who avail of it.

Boots Ireland has partnered with the Irish Cancer Society since 2012 and through the support of their team members, patients and customers have raised €3.3 million for the service so far, the equivalent of approximately 9,100 nights of care.

This year, Boots is calling upon the public to sign up and walk 3.5km together this autumn in support of the Irish Cancer Society Night Nurses. The walk will take place on Tuesday, September 10, at Dublin’s Phoenix Park, or you can complete the walk at a location of your choosing.

Alongside the walk, Honour Tags are now on sale in Boots stores nationwide for €3 to raise additional funds for the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing service. Customers can purchase a tag in honour of someone who has survived or passed away from cancer. The front of the tag includes space to write the name of the individual being honoured.

All funds raised from the Boots Night Walk will go towards the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing service providing vital support to cancer patients and their families when they need it most. Ambassador Rachel will be participating in the walk this year in honour of her late partner Daniel, who passed away due to oesophageal cancer in 2021.

Rachel Gorry said: “I am honoured to be taking part in this year’s Night Walk, supporting the incredible work of nurses who make a real difference in the lives of so many people. This is a cause that’s very close to my heart.”

Irish Cancer Society CEO, Averil Power, is also encouraging people to take part.

“The incredible outpouring of support from the Boots Night Walk allows the Irish Cancer Society to provide vital end-of-life care for cancer patients and their loved ones. We are so grateful to Boots Ireland, their employees, customers, and every person who supports the Night Walks. Your incredible generosity is bringing relief and comfort to families across Ireland at such a difficult time. On behalf of everyone affected by cancer, thank you for making this vital care possible."
