Scotshouse farming family raise €14K for Palliative Care Fund

The wife of the late Robert Hall from Scotshouse, Laura Hall, and her son Ian, wish to publicly convey thanks to everyone who donated to their recent fundraising drive for Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care fund.

“Your generosity means the world to Ian and myself. The fundraiser was my late husband, Robert’s idea and the cheque presentation was postponed due to his untimely sudden passing in early July,” Laura told the Celt.

“We wished to pay tribute to our beloved Robert by going ahead with the presentation of the €14,000 to the palliative care fund. We had decided to auction a cow in aid of the cause earlier this year, because cancer is something that affects everyone, either directly or indirectly,” she added.

The family also expressed their appreciation to local businesses, people in the community, and politicians for their help and kindness. “We couldn’t have done it without all of your support,” said Laura.

A debt of gratitude is owed to Ballyjamesduff Mart for auctioning the Aberdeen Angus four-year-old cow, who was a second calver at the time of her sale. John Smith from Oldcastle ensured that the cow was looking her best before going into the auction ring.

The cow raised €1,990 at auction, when she was purchased by Colin McArdle, Brackley Farm, Lough Egish. The cow has since had a bull calf. The total raised by the auction and the generosity of all the people who made donations amounted to no less than €14,000.

The Hall family would like to pay tribute to Jimmy O’Donnell and the Palliative Care Team for the wonderful work they do on an ongoing basis to bring comfort to families at a very traumatic time for all involved.

Thanks is also extended to media outlets for their help with publicity including The Anglo-Celt, The Northern Standard, Agriland and Northern Sound, in particular Ronan Gargan who interviewed Robert on radio.
