JFC quarter-finals decided; Gowna and Cavan Gaels draw

Round-up

After a dramatic evening of action, the stage is set for the last eight of the Junior Football Championship.

Drung, who started so well with a draw against Knockbride and a win over Belturbet, are the big casualty as a draw against Redhills wasn’t enough to see them advance.

There were wins for Shannon Gaels over Killeshandra (4-12 to 2-13), Kildallan over Mountnugent (8-14 to 3-11), Drumalee over Munterconnaught (2-10 to 0-8), Knockbride over Swanlinbar (6-20 to 1-7) and Belturbet over Kill (0-13 to 1-6).

The quarter-final line-up will be Knockbride vs Munterconnaught, Shannon Gaels vs Belturbet, Redhills vs Swanlinbar and Kill Shamrocks vs Drumalee.

Meanwhile, in the Senior Championship, James Brady came off the bench to score 1-3 (including one free, one mark and a goal from a penalty) as they defeated Killygarry (for whom Darragh Lovett bagged a hat-trick) in a high-scoring thriller against Lavey.

Elsewhere, Gowna came from five down in the second half of a fiery clash with Cavan Gaels to force a draw, 1-12 apiece. Gowna had one player sent off and the Gaels had two.

Crosserlough had a one-sided win over Ballinagh in Lacken to secure their place in the last eight.

Tomorrrow, Laragh face Lavey and Kingscourt meet Mullahoran.

On Thursday, an injury-time goal from Martin Conaty saw Ballyhaise edge past Castlerahan.
