Wet start to give way to sunshine

Rain this morning is forecasted to clear in the afternoon with sunshine and a few isolated shows.

A 'Status Yellow' rain warning issued for counties Cork, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Mayo and neighbouring Co Leitrim yesterday remains in place until 10am today, meaning parts of west Cavan could be impacted.

The rest of the day will be mostly dry with sunshine and just a few isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees, with light to moderate southwesterly winds.

There will be clear spells and isolated showers early on tonight. Showers will become more widespread later in the night, some heavy. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate southwest winds.

Tomorrow, sunny spells and scattered showers will become widespread during the afternoon, with some turning heavy with the chance of thunder. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

National Outlook

Overview: Generally cool with showers at times, with early indications of drier and more settled weather developing during the weekend and beyond.

Wednesday night: Clear spells and a few showers on Wednesday night, mainly affecting Connacht and Ulster. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in moderate southwest breezes.

Thursday: A bright and fresh day on Thursday with plenty of sunshine and just a few scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Thursday night: Mainly dry on Thursday night with long clear spells. Minimum temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

Friday: Mostly dry on Friday with early spells of sunshine giving way to cloudier conditions through the day. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees in light variable winds.

Saturday: Early indications suggest that Saturday will be mostly dry with spells of warm sunshine developing. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees, in light southerly breezes.
