Funeral details confirmed for Archbishop Noël Treanor
Public welcome to pay respects at his reception and reposal in St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast
The funeral details have been announced for the late Archbishop Noël Treanor, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Down and Connor, who passed away last Sunday, August 11, suddenly in Brussels.
The Monaghan man's remains will depart Dublin Airport tomorrow (Saturday), August 17, at approximately 12:45pm to travel via M1, N2, R213 and N12 through Tyholland. The procession will rejoin the N2 at Coolshannagh Roundabout passing Corracrin and onward to Ballygawley roundabout joining the M1 to Belfast.
The Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union is formerly from Silverstream, Tyholland, Co Monaghan and Belfast.
Archbishop Noel’s remains will repose on Sunday, August 18, for family only until arrival at St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast, for liturgy of reception and reposal at 6pm. All welcome.
On Monday, August 19, St Peter’s Cathedral will remain open until 8pm for people to pay their respects to Archbishop Noel. Requiem Mass will take place in St Peter’s Cathedral on Tuesday, August 20, at 12 noon followed by the interment in the Chapel of the Resurrection of the Cathedral.

Archbishop Eamon Martin, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, led the tributes to Archbishop Noel following his premature passing last weekend.
On behalf of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, he expressed his sadness and shock at Archbishop Noël’s premature passing.
"He followed closely in the footsteps and spirit of the founding fathers of closer European unity, including Venerable Robert Schuman whom he had honoured recently at Luxeil les Bains in France.
"Archbishop Noël served most of his ordained ministry in working to forge positive relations with partner countries of the European Union and to help nourish the Christian heart and soul of Europe," said Archbishop Martin.
Archbishop Noël Treanor was predeceased by his father John and mother Molly.
He will be sadly missed by his brother John (Margaret) and sister Mary (Jim), nephew John Thomas and nieces Lisa, Rachael, Catharine, Erin and Rhíannon, extended family, clergy, colleagues and friends.
