CRF funding awarded to Kingscourt

Two community groups in Kingscourt received local amenity funding last week.

Kingscourt Stars GAA club received €50,400 for the refurbishment of their clubhouse meeting room, while a sum of €50,301 was awarded to Kingscourt Community Centre for roof refurbishment works.

The funding was received under the Community Recognition Fund.

Kingscourt Stars GAA club got word of the funding on Friday morning and were “delighted” with the news, according to club treasurer Philip Smith.

“We’ve spent a lot of money last year and this year,” he said, adding that the club spent over €360k making improvements to the club grounds “which were mainly outside projects.”

“This funding has come to assist us in developing and improving the internal facilities.

“It’s much needed, it’s a great boost to us.”

Cllr Clifford Kelly is Chairperson of the community centre and was also "delighted" to receive funding to repair the roof.

"It's going to make a huge difference to us," he said, adding that the roof has a "serious problem" with water leaks.

"We can now deal with that," he said.

He thanked Minister Humphreys for her "consideration" in allocating the funding.
