Wins for Lacken, Redhills and Killinkere

Round-up

There were wins for Lacken, Redhills and Killinkere this evening while Drung and Knockbride drew last evening (Thursday) as the club championships get into full swing.

An injury time goal from Gary Watters was key as Drung, who trailed by 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time, earned a point against championship favourites Knockbride in Cootehill in the championship opener.

This evening, Lacken overcame a wasteful Ballymachugh in an entertaining game at Kilnaleck. The Celtics led 1-3 to 0-4 at half-time thanks an excellent Mark Wilson goal but Ballymachugh, for whom Shane Tynan kicked some lovely points, came roaring back with a palmed goal from Liam Buchanan.

However, Lacken kicked five points in succession, with county manager Ray Galligan prominent, and ran out 1-11 to 1-7 winners against a Hughs side who registered 13 wides.

Meanwhile, an early goal from former county ace Rory Dunne set Redhills on their way to a convincing 1-16 to 0-5 win over Killeshandra.

Elsewhere, Killinkere were 1-6 to 0-1 up after 18 minutes against Templeport, the goal coming from Ciaran Cusack, and ran out comfortable 1-14 to 0-9 victors.
