Simone Biles recovers from beam slip-up to take silver in floor final

Updated: 2.45pm

Team USA's Simone Biles recovered from a disappointing fifth-place finish in the balance beam on Monday to take silver in the floor event just an hour later.

Biles' silver brings her Paris medal tally to four, having already claimed three golds in the team event, the all-around and the vault.

Earlier in the beam event, Italian gymnast Alice D'Amato was the surprise champion with a clean routine devoid of any major errors earning her a score of 14.366.

Zhou Yaqin of China made a solid start to her routine but had to bend over and grab the beam with both hands during her jump sequence to prevent herself from falling. Despite the error, she clinched silver with 14.100 points.

D'Amato's compatriot Manila Esposito finished third, 0.1 of a point behind her Chinese rival.

Biles, already the most decorated gymnast of all-time, was one of four finalists to fall off the apparatus on Monday, finishing a disappointing fifth with a score of 13.100.

The women's floor event was next on the agenda, with Biles one of nine gymnasts battling looking to get on the podium.

Biles nailed a stunning routine, including some moves only she has been capable of completing in competition to date, but bounced out of bounds on a number of her landings, seeing 0.6 deducted from her score.

With the deduction, Biles was left with a score 14.133, placing her in the silver-medal position behind Brazil's Rebeca Andrade.

The 25-year-old from São Paulo gave a powerful performance to claim her fourth medal at the Paris Games, adding to her two silver and bronze picked up in the individual all-round, vault and team all-round events.

Biles' teammate Jordan Chiles took the bronze, scoring 13.766.
