Anna Sokolan from the Computer Games Development Level 6 course at Cavan Institute participated in the recently held regional ACP final.A Cavan Institute student is representing his country at a World Championships in the States having emerged victorious in the UK and Ireland Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) Championship Final.
A Level 5 Creative Digital Media student at Cavan Institute, David Weir will now go on to compete at the ACP World Championship Final in California.
Speaking to The Anglo-Celt, David described the boost he has received from participating in the championships and pointed to the “really exciting opportunities” that lie ahead in the US.
“It all started during our modules and I was doing a lot of Photoshop,” continued the Oldcastle native before adding how he was then given an opportunity to gain certification in the skill.
“From there I participated in the ACP Regional Championship representing Ireland and the UK and now I’m off to California for the world championship final. It’s so exciting; I’ve barely been outside Ireland - Scotland once - so I’m really looking forward to the trip.”
Meanwhile, David says the win and the experience to date has served as a “great boost to my confidence”. It has also helped develop his graphic design skills.
“It’s just an amazing opportunity for me; I’m thinking of doing an Arts Degree in Maynooth and so creative media is definitely something that I’ll be keeping an eye on.”
The competition runs in conjunction with Certiport & Prodigy Learning and other local students who participated at regional final level include Anna Sokolan, Naoise Feeney, and Cara Cronin.
Participating students at Cavan Institute were supported by Donna McCarron, Creative Digital Media Tutor; and Ashlene Kinnear, Architectural Technology & Design tutor.
The Institute courses represented included Creative Digital Media, Animation, Architectural Technology and Design and Games Development.
His tutor Donna McCarron was delighted by David’s success.
“Winning the ACP UK and Ireland final is a fantastic achievement. This is a huge milestone, not just for David but for the entire college. He has made both himself and the college incredibly proud.
“All in Cavan Institute hope he enjoys this trip of a lifetime to California, and we wish him the best of luck in the ACP World Championship!”
Students gained Adobe Certified Professional status in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Animate, Illustrator and InDesign.
