Tributes to bikers who died in Oldcastle crash
Fundraiser for families reaches goal
Tributes have been paid to two friends with a passion for motorbikes who tragically died following a crash near Oldcastle at the weekend.
The men have been named as Mark 'Beaver' Eager and Stuart ‘Stuewy’ O’Connell, both from the north Meath town.
They were pronounced dead at the scene following a three-vehicle road traffic collision at Bellaney, on the R195 Castlepollard to Oldcastle Road on at approximately 4:40pm on Sunday last, July 28.
The two men were travelling on the same motorcycle at the time.
Their bodies were removed from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, and post-mortem examinations will be arranged.
A second male motorcyclist involved in the crash was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he is being treated for what have been described as “serious” injuries.
A third male motorcyclist was taken to Cavan General Hospital with “non-life threatening injuries”.
A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators and Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R195 road at Bellaney, Oldcastle, Co. Meath, between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday, July28, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Kells Garda Station on 046 928 0820, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
An online fundraiser to help the families of Mr Eager and Mr O'Connell has been set up, and within hours had reached above its intended €5,000 goal.
Organisers said that Mr Eager, known by his nickname 'Beaver', was a “crazy but kind soul”.
They added: “you will definitely never be forgotten my old friend”.
