Inpatient survey at local hospitals

The sixth National Inpatient Experience Survey is now underway across Cavan and Monaghan.

This annual survey — the largest of its kind in Ireland — offers patients an opportunity to share their experiences of healthcare and inform what is working well and what improvements are necessary to services.

The survey is a joint initiative by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health.

Almost 32,000 patients are eligible to participate in this year’s survey.

The first National Inpatient Experience Survey took place in Ireland in 2017 and, since then, over 61,000 patients have taken part and shared their experiences of hospital care.

In 2022, 44% of invited patients responded to the survey.

All patients aged over 16 years who spent 24 hours or more Cavan Monaghan Hospital and were discharged during the month of May are eligible to participate in the survey.

Su-Zann O’Callaghan, General Manager of Cavan and Monaghan Hospital, commented: “Patient feedback is invaluable in helping us to understand individual experiences and to assess our service performance against expectations. Importantly, it ultimately leads to an improvement in the quality of healthcare services provided by Cavan and Monaghan Hospital.”
