New bus services for Cavan/ Monaghan
Two new bus services are expected be introduced as well as enhanced frequency for existing services.
A new 186 Local Link service (Cavan – Ballyjamesduff – Virginia – Mullagh - Kells – Gibbstown) and 178 service (Cootehill – Shercock – Bailieborough – Virginia) is expected to be introduced.
The Bus Eireann 187 service (Virginia – Oldcastle – Crossakiel – Kells) will run on an enhanced frequency.
The National Transport Authority currently anticipate that routes 186 and 187 will be implemented before the end of 2024 and route 178 is likely to be implemented in 2025.
The proposed implementation of new services is subject to funding availability.
Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith had raised with the Minister for Transport through Parliamentary Questions in Dáil Éireann the need to provide additional public transport services in Cavan and Monaghan.
He was informed of the additional services by the NTA.
"I will continue to raise with the Minister and the NTA the need to have these services in place as soon as possible. Such services are important for many local communities,” stated Brendan Smith TD.
