‘Charming and quirky’ lots in latest Victor Mee sale

The team at Victor Mee Auctions is preparing to present a spectacular three-day summer auction event towards the end of the month.

The Decorative Interiors and Garden Sale will feature almost 1,500 lots of superb home interiors, furniture, artwork, décor and so much more.

Taking place over three days, from Tuesday, July 23 to Thursday, July 25, the auction will also include an impressive private collection of rare coins and gold bullion.

In addition, day three of the auction will see a stunning array of garden ware hit the rostrum, from striking statuary and water features to stylish seating and an impressive selection of urns, pots and planters.

Victor Mee Auctions, based in Cloverhill, Co Cavan, has built a sterling reputation over the years as one of Ireland’s leading auction houses, hosting a variety of sales throughout the year, with an esteemed knowledge of antique furniture and modern home interiors.

Speaking ahead of the sale, auctioneer Victor Mee said: “The team have worked hard to compose an extraordinary assortment of high quality and timeless interior lots with a healthy peppering of the unique, the charming and the quirky on top.”

This sale boasts a catalogue of unmissable lots, carefully curated and cherry-picked to bring bidders a summer sale of excellent quality and unique design.

Lot 200, appearing on day one, is a beautiful, early 20th century, Italian-painted, carved, demi-lune console table with verde antico marble top in the Neo Classical style. The hammer is expected to fall somewhere between €2,000 and €4,000 on this desirable piece.

Take a seat!

As always with a Victor Mee Auctions sale, the catalogue here brags a superb assortment of seating options.

Lot 170 is a pair of exceptional quality hand-dyed leather tub chairs. This pair is rather unimposing in size (74cm tall x 72cm wide x 63cm deep) and would set a library or home office setting. They go to auction estimated at €2,200-€3,200.

Lot 4 moves us away from leather with a gorgeous pair of 19th century French satinwood and velvet upholstered chairs. Draped in a deep blue upholstery, these opulent chairs go forward on Tuesday evening with an estimate of €800-€1,600.

Lot 119 is a good quality buttoned upholstered Chesterfield sofa. The Chesterfield is an icon of sofa design and, while it is more commonly found in leather, this one is upholstered and in fantastic condition, radiating chic vibes and clean lines. It is estimated at just €300-€600.

Inviting interiors

Moving to interiors, lot 12 is an original 20th century Maison Jansen brass palm tree table lamp. Maison Jansen is one of the most recognisable and desirable names in interior design. The Paris-based firm is renowned worldwide for its lavish, and often one-off, designs. With the firm fully defunct since 1989, Maison Jansen pieces have become even more desirable. This stunning lamp goes to auction on day one with an estimate of €1,500-€3,000.

Also here to add some timeless pizzaz to your space is lot 277, a decorative Persian carpet square. This one, measuring a whopping 385cm long x 292cm wide, is a beautiful example and wears an estimate of €600-€1,200.

Other lots of interest include lot 8, an Italian walnut credenza in the Art Deco style, with an estimate of €800-€1,600; lot 5 is an excellent quality Edwardian brass washstand with mirrored back, marble top and single drawer in the frieze, guiding at €800-€1,200 and lot 589, a beautiful vintage painted shop cabinet, with a price tag of €400-€800.

Quirky additions

For those seeking something a little bit different or eccentric, there’s plenty in this catalogue to steal your heart.

Lot 670 is a rare art-deco mahogany coin operated foosball table. It is a very nostalgic lot, the players worn, depicting years of hard-fought games. It is estimated at €1,200-€1,400.

Lot 747 is a 19th century full-size taxidermy brown bear. Certainly not an item one would find very often, he stands 126cm tall and 200cm long, and though taxidermy is not without its controversy, this one comes with enough age and stature to be an impressive curiosity, headed to auction with an estimate of €1,200-€1,400.
