Cavan's Leona Maguire has made history to become the first Irish player to win a Ladies European Tour event after a one-shot victory at the Aramco Team Series event in Hemel Hempstead in London.

The Ballyconnell girl was the front-runner throughout the tournament but had a difficult final round before a sensational second shot at the closing par-five 18th saw her triumph.

Had had trailed clubhouse leader, Maria Hernandez, who posted a seven-under par score, by just one shot going down the last.

But true to her from, Leona remained cool uner pressure and produced one of the best shots of her career before sinking her putt.

Maguire was teamed up with English player Liz Young, Spain's Marta Sanz Barrio and amateur Yana Wilson.

"My trusty hybrids came in handy again," Maguire told Sky Sports afterwards.

It's Maguire's fifth win as a professional with two victories on the LPGA Tour and two on the Symetra Tour previously.

Leona will represent Ireland at the Olympics in Paris later this summer.
