Mother and young daughter killed in collision involving car and lorry in Co Mayo

A woman and a young girl have died following a collision involving a car and a lorry in Co Mayo.

As reported by The Irish Times, it is understood the victims were a mother and daughter.

The collision happened just before 6pm on Tuesday on the N26 at Callow between Foxford and Swinford.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, and her young daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were fatally injured in the collision.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with injuries which are understood to be non-life threatening.

The road is currently closed with local diversions in place while a technical examination is conducted.

Within an hour of the fatalities in Mayo, a man was pronounced dead following a single-vehicle crash in Co Westmeath.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses in relation to the Mayo incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera/dash-cam footage and were travelling on the N26 between Swinford and Foxford between 5pm and 6pm on Tuesday evening are asked to make the footage available to gardaí.
