Club slams 'vile' song slagging neighbours

Drumlane GAA issue statement after AI generated song got shared widely.

Drumlane GAA has “condemned” and distanced itself from a song that ridicules nearest neighbours and closest rivals, Belturbet's Rory O'Moores.

Carrying the chorus 'F**k the Rories, we shout with a cheer. Aw Yup, Drumlane, the victory is near', the divisive chant references several local haunts and past and present players.

The artificially generated ditty first emerged over the weekend, before quickly gaining traction, and by Monday it was being shared widely across social media back channels, coming to the attention of hierarchy at clubs on both sides of the bridge dividing the two parishes.

Drumlane GAA's response was swift.

By Monday afternoon the club issued a statement, shared on Facebook, saying: “We as a club disassociate ourselves from this song and its content in the strongest possible manner, it was vile and disgraceful, and we can confirm that nobody affiliated to the club was involved in posting it. We totally condemn the sentiments expressed, that were directed at our neighbouring club, and we apologise to their players, members & supporters."

The statement, issued on behalf of the Drumlane Executive Committee, concludes by saying they have asked by the individuals named in the song to state “their annoyance and disgust” in what they say can “only be described as a deplorable rant”.

“We apologise to anyone who was offended by the chorus line and to reiterate our displeasure at the club's good name being sullied by association to this song.”

Drumlane GAA men's team won the Junior title for the fifth time in 2022, and their ladies claimed their first senior championship title last year.

Belturbet's Rory O'Moores were relegated to Junior ranks in 2023.
