Public meeting over battery storage facility

A public meeting is being organised held to discuss the proposed development of battery energy storage facilities at two sites in Cavan, both of which are currently under appeal to An Bord Pleanala.

The meeting will take place at Killygarry Community Centre, tomorrow (Monday), June 17, from 8pm.

Accelerate Renewables Limited was granted planning permission from Cavan planners for a 10-year permission to build an energy storage facility at Shankill Lower, Clonervy. It comprises energy storage containers installed on concrete plinths; electrical inverters and transformers; underground electrical and communications cabling; and the upgrade of existing agricultural access point from the L2035.

The operational lifetime of the proposed development is 35 years.

The same was sought for Pottle, Ballinagh, with an upgrade of an existing agricultural access point from the L2512.

The public meeting will seek to inform people in these communities about these types of battery sites.

The event has been organised by concerned local residents.
