Sunday Sport: Derry take on Armagh, Kerry defeat Meath

Derry and Armagh are just about to get underway at Celtic Park in their All-Ireland Group One clash.

Elsewhere in that group Galway currently trail Westmeath at halftime in Mullingar by 7 points to 8.

Earlierl Tyrone defeated Clare in the opening game of the day by 3-15 to 10 points.

In Navan, Meath suffered defeat at the hands of Kerry on a score-line of Kerry 2-18 Meath 0-9 points.

Monaghan and Louth threw in at 3:30pm in Clones, and it is currently Monaghan 2 points Louth 3 points.

In the Tailteann Cup, Down defeated Offaly by 2-22 to 3-13, whilst it is just getting underway at Breffni Park where Sligo are taking on Antrim.

The draw for the preliminary quarter finals takes place later this evening.

 

Boxing

Two Irish boxers have booked their places at the Olympic Games this summer.

Jennifer Lehane was first to progress following a unanimous victory over Hungary's Hanna Lakotar this morning.

Grainne Walsh will join her in Paris after another dominant victory over Ani Hovesepyan (Hov-is-ep-yan) of Armenia at the qualification in tournament in Bangkok.

Ireland now has 8 boxers qualified for the games, one more than went in 2021.

Daina Moorhouse is just in the ring now attempting to become the 9th Irish boxer to qualify.

Later, wins for Martin McDonagh and Aidan Walsh will see them on the plane next month.

Tennis

The French Open continues at Roland Garros today.

Carlos Alcaraz faces a tough test against Felix Auger Aliassime (PRON: Ah-zhay Ali-ah-seem) in the afternoon session.

Second seed Jannick Sinner also returns to the court taking on hometown boy Corentin Moutet.

In the women's draw, world number one Iga Swiatek breezed into the quarter-final after a straight sets victory over Anastasia Potapova.

Golf

Rory McIlroy is looking to finish strongly at the Canadian Open this evening.

The Northern Irishman has won the tournament twice before and lies in a tie for 11th place ahead of the final round.
