Vikings are back!

Bankholiday weekend fun

This June Bank Holiday Weekend travel back in time to the 10th Century when Viking bands were raiding and marauding through the plains of Midhe, pillaging the monasteries at Kells and Fore in search of plunder and to capture slaves.

Viking culture has played an important part of our Irish history and Fingal Living History Society are hosting this Viking Festival on the beautiful grounds of Loughcrew Estate outside Oldcastle, Co. Meath this Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 from 10am-5pm.

Daily full line battles will be held where you can see and hear the clash of steel on shield as well as enjoying 'Have A Go Archery' with The Wolfshead Company of Archers and watching the Viking Crafters in their encampment displaying their traditional crafts.

Find out about Viking weapons in the armoury, see coins being struck and make your own dipping candle and try lots of children's entertainment and games including spear throwing.

A great day out discovering living history where the past comes alive on the Viking's first (modern) visit to Loughcrew Gardens where the cafe and gardens are included in the great value daily tickets of adults €9.00 Child €6.00.
