St Mogue’s NS represents Cavan Our World Irish Aid final

Pupils and their teacher to travel to Dublin Castle to compete for prestigious national title

Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Class pupils from St Mogue’s National School, Currin have been chosen to represent County Cavan at the 2024 final of the Our World Irish Aid Awards.

The school will join nine other national finalists from other counties in Ireland at a ceremony to be held at Dublin Castle on Thursday, June 13.

St Mogue’s National School is one of just 10 schools in Ireland to be in the running for one of seven prestigious Our World Irish Aid Awards. This includes the 'Changemakers Award', 'Gaeilge Award', 'Performance Award', 'Food for Life Award', 'Countries in Focus Award', an award for 'Teacher of the Year', and also the coveted 'School of the Year Award'.

This year’s theme was 'Food for All'.

Each of the 10 schools will also have their work featured in a special printed edition of the Global Goal Getters annual which will be distributed nationwide.

The project from St Mogue’s National School comprises a video entitled 'Keep Tasting, Not Wasting'.

Created by Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class pupils, it tells the story of the Global Goals in action in their community.

Congratulating St Mogue’s National School on making it to the national final, Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Sean Fleming, said: “I really look forward to meeting the pupils from St Mogue’s and their teacher at the national final."

He added that he is also looking forward to personally thanking the primary school teachers for their continued commitment, not just to participating in the Awards, but also to nurturing an ethos of global citizenship amongst our young people.

Now in their 19th year, the Our World Irish Aid Awards have seen tens of thousands of primary school pupils across Ireland learn about Irish Aid and its work to help improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable citizens.
