Cavan gears up for Sing for Me Festival

County Cavan is gearing up for a weekend of music and craic as the annual Sing for Me Festival kicks off on Thursday night in Blessing’s Bar. This is the fifth year of the event during which time it has grown from two night to four such has been its success. This year’s proceeds will be donated to SOSAD Cavan and the festival itself is focused on creating more awareness around mental health, particularly in young people.

Blessings Bar is the venue for the festival, which kicks off around now (6pm, Thursday), May 30 at 6pm, with a country night headlined by Seamus Moore. Cavan native Brendan Jermyn is also on the bill, as are Tis Not Easy and Mono from Killeshandra.

Organiser Leanne Coyle says there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes over the last few months and she is “delighted” that the festival is close to opening night.

“We are hoping to appeal to a larger audience this year and the country night is something that will appeal to all generations and gives us an opportunity to run a night that will bring young and old together,” she continued.

“That will be something very special. We are also trying to appeal to a larger audience and to people with different tastes and we have everything from country, rock and metal to pop.”

Meanwhile, the music and craic will continue on Friday, May 31, from 6:30pm when the ‘Metal Night’ kicks off. Bands from all over the country will be in attendance including from Dublin, Galway, Tipperary and Derry.

The music will be flowing from 4pm on Saturday, when a Nirvana tribute band will feature as the headline act. Sunday’s top billing is Thin Thieves from Cavan.

In total, 10 bands will play the stage at Blessings on the night and, afterwards, a DJ will bring revellers into the wee hours of the morning when the festival will finally come to a close.

As each year passes, the festival is not only going from strength to strength, it also allows the organisers to raise money for local mental health charities. The inaugural festival’s proceeds were given to SOSAD and, so to mark the fifth anniversary, SOSAD will be the recipient of funds once again.

Tickets are €10 and can be purchased online; on the door; or in Multi Sound, Blessings, the SOSAD Office; Harry’s Electrical.
