More jobs but less IDA visits last year
More jobs were created at IDA supported enterprises in Cavan last year, but there were less visits by potential foreign investors, either in person or online, compared to 2022.
According to Department figures, there were 821 people working in IDA supported firms in Cavan in 2023, up three per cent from the 797 employed 12 months previous.
IDA had over 1,800 client companies within its portfolio employing 300,583 nationally at the end of 2023.
A total of 248 investments were won in 2023, 132 of which were secured across regional locations, representing just over half (53%) of all investments.
Employment in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) companies now accounts for over 11% of the workforce in the country.
The Midlands Region saw the strongest level of growth in 2023, up 5.8% on 2022 levels.
There was also growth in the Border Region (up 2.7%), and Midwest (up 2.6%), with the Southwest and Southeast Regions up by 1.2% and 1.4% respectively.
By comparison there are 1,104 employees in IDA companies working in Leitrim, up 9.5 per cent; 283 in Monaghan, down 20 per cent; 1,801 in Longford, up 11 per cent; and 2,173 in Meath, up eight per cent.
According to the same set of department statistics, there were just two visits in Cavan in 2023, still one more than in 2022, but less than the three counted in 2021.
