Tributes to Cllr Argue at last ETB meeting

Tributes were paid to local Fine Gael Councillor, Madeleine Argue, on what is expected to be her last meeting as a member of the Cavan-Monaghan ETB.

A councillor for over 25 years, she served on the VEC like her father Senator Andy O'Brien before her, before the organisation morphed into its present day iteration.

Joe McGrath said that he and Cllr Argue were the two longest serving members on the board.

The pair shared the position of chair of the board in 2013 when the former VECs merged to form a single ETB.

Addressing the meeting, Cllr Argue said that the ETB as an organisation had come a long way compared to what it was like when she first joined the board.

She said the local education provider was now “top notch”, and she credited the people involved and their collective passion for driving it forward.

“It has come so far because of the people, they put their hand on the wheel and got on with it.”

Chair of the ETB, PJ O'Hanlon, said Cllr Argue was on the board when he first joined, and thanked her for her service.
