Founder of the Sing for Me Festival, Leanne Coyle, is a finalist for the Volunteer of the Year.

Volunteer of the Year Finalist: Leanne's festival strikes a positive note

Music is something that can lift the mood and the Sing For Me festival has done much to promote positive mental health since it first headlined in 2018.

It was the brainchild of Cornafean native and photographer Leanne Coyle. Hosted in Cavan Town, the music festival raises funds for local mental health charities and also raises awareness of available supports in the community for those struggling.

Leanne, who was also behind a Smile For Me project, is overwhelmed that her efforts have led to her being selected as a finalist for the Volunteer of the Year.

“I’m just so happy that Sing for Me is getting recognised.

“I’m just over the moon that our little festival is finally receiving the recognition it deserves.”

Speaking about her fellow three finalists in the category, Leanne said:

“To be nominated amongst people like that is just insane, people that I've looked up to for years, it’s just an honour.”

Over the years, the festival has raised funds for charities including Be Buddies not Bullies, the Kevin Bell Trust, SOSAD and Cian’s Kennels.

This year's Sing For Me festival is due to take place from May 30 to June 2, with artists from all over the country set to chorus Cavan’s streets.

Also, for the first time ever, there will be a country night with the legendary Seamus Moore taking centre stage, as well as a metal night, and a host of local Irish bands.

Donations from this year's festival will go to SOSAD.

“SOSAD has done so much in the community especially in the last couple of years.”

The festival has completely taken off since its foundation and continues to go from strength to strength.

“I’m very proud of the festival, I never imagined it growing,” Leanne beamed.

She thanked her friends, family, the local and wider Cavan community for their support over the years.

“I’m extremely grateful,” she said.
