Longford Ploughing to go ahead this Sunday
It's a case of third time lucky for the Longford Ploughing Championships as the organisers insist it is definitely going ahead this Sunday, April 28.
Kindly hosted by Niall and Paul Belton, Bunlahy, Granard is the setting for the eagerly anticipated event that boasts an exciting menu of family entertainment and fun activities. Longford’s annual ploughing festival attracts thousands of returning visitors every year, and this year is set to be no different.
The massively popular Grassmen will be amongst the star attractions at the event whose main sponsor is Midland Agri Consultants, Granard.
Deputy IFA president Alice Doyle and rising country star Sina Theil will go head to head in the ever popular celebrity ploughing. The serious business of the ploughing championships will see tractor, horse and vintage ploughing competitions featuring alongside loy digging. Another attraction will be the big annual trade and machinery exhibition.
They've a great line-up of live music with Peter Costello, Aisling Rynn and Sina Theil all taking to the stage. John Dungan Ceoltoiri are also performing live on stage from noon and A&C Jiving will give outdoor dancing lessons and judge the dancing competition.
For the first time ever at the Ploughing, Longford Pony Club will have a spectacular fun arena with members tackling novelty challenges. Top class catering on site and ooodles of novelty family games organised by Macra and Ballymore GAA and then there's the dog show, a firm favourite amongst the Longford Ploughing crowd. From the Grassmen stand to celebrity ploughing with Sina Theil and Alice Doyle, there is lots to enjoy at Ireland's largest springtime ploughing festival ‘Longford Ploughing’.
The popular championships were originally due to be held in March only for them to rained off, and then for the rescheduled date to be rained off again. But he organisers insist the Longford Ploughing Championships "is certain" to go ahead in Bunlahy this Sunday, April 28 and you can see facebook/longfordploughing for updates.
