Fewer claimed rent tax credit in Cavan last year

The number of people claiming rent tax credits in Cavan fell in 2023.

Taxpayers have up to four years in which to make a claim in respect of a year of assessment.

The amount of the credit is 20% of your rent payments in the year, up to a maximum credit of €750 for an individual or €1,500 for a couple who are jointly assessed for tax.

Credit for rent payments can be claimed for a principal primary residence, a second home in Ireland used for work or an approved course, or a property used by a child to take part in an approved course, if they are under 23 at the start of the year in which they begin the course.

The rent payments must be for a home in Ireland, and credit cannot be claimed on a property already in receipt of housing support.
