Man remanded in custody following seizure of almost €200K of herbal cannabis
Judge directs defendant receive medical attention
A man, charged following the seizure of almost €200,000 of suspected herbal cannabis in County Monaghan yesterday (Wednesday), has been remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison.
Marcin Sznaza (34) of No Fixed Abode appeared before Judge Raymond Finnegan at Cavan District Court this morning.
He was charged with common possession of the drug and also possession for the purposes of sale or supply, contrary to Sections 3 and 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. The drugs were seized at York Street, Castleblayney, on April 10, 2024, following a joint operation by gardaí and customs officers.
Approximately 9.7 kilograms of herbal cannabis (pending analysis), valued at an estimated €194,800, was seized.
Mr Sznaza was arrested and subsequently charged and brought before this morning's court sitting.
Solicitor Roisín Courtney represented the defendant. There was no application for bail.
However, Ms Courtney advised that Mr Sznaza required medical attention.
Judge Finnegan remanded him in custody to Cloverhill Prison to appear again before Monaghan District Court, via video link on April 15, for further directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions in the matter.
The judge also directed that the defendant receive medical treatment.
