Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy has said fellow Corkman Roy Keane is "one of my favourite people".

Murphy, 47, previously revealed he was a fan of Keane, 52, when asked whether he was the most famous Cork person in an interview in the buildup to the Academy Awards, where Murphy one best actor for his leading role in Oppenheimer.

Speaking in a recent Financial Times interview, Murphy once again mentioned his love for the Manchester United legend.

'Intense chat'

“Roy Keane is actually one of my favourite people.

“I met him once in an airport, and we had a very intense chat for about an hour and a half.”

Murphy added: “He’s got that thing, that Cork sense… straight to the heart of the issue. He’s a legend. Everything he stands for, I love.”

It was recently confirmed that Murphy would be reprising his role as Tommy Shelby for the Peaky Blinders film, which is due to start shooting soon.

Keane was recently linked with the Republic of Ireland managerial role after it emerged he had spoken with the FAI about the post.

However, that appears unlikely and Keane is busy with his punditry role on Sky Sports and the Stick to Football podcast.
