Exceptional local volunteers recognised at Council awards

The 2024 Cavan County Council Cathaoirleach’s Awards took place last night at the Cavan Crystal Hotel.
Communities from across Co Cavan celebrated great success at the event where the Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Philip Brady acknowledged the work of volunteers who are making a difference in their communities.
On the night, seven communities emerged victorious. The overall Cathaoirleach’s Award winner was Cavan GAA Health and Wellness Committee.
Meanwhile, the recipient of the Social Inclusion award was Laura Skelly who was recognised for her work with Jumping Jellybeans in Virginia.
The award for Contribution to the Arts was won by Frolics - Ballyjamesduff Musical Society while the accolade for Contribution to Local Heritage and Biodiversity was awarded to Friends of Castle Lake and Catchment.
Winner in the Community category was Ballintemple Variety Troupe while the Sports accolade was awarded to Cavan GAA Health and Wellness Committee. Ciaran Weir emerged victorious in the Older People (55+) category.
The Awards recognise exceptional involvement, achievement, effort, or service in a voluntary or unpaid capacity in Co Cavan and the overall award winner won €1,000 for their group.
