Man hospitalised after hit and run incident
Gardaí in Cavan are appealling for witnesses to come forward after a male pedestrian was hospitalised following a hit and run incident in Cavan Town in the early hours St Patrick’s day, March 17.
The incident occurred at approximately 1am in the Townspark area of the county town, specifically on Bullock Lane just off Main Street, when a car is understood to have driven at speed up the narrow laneway.
The driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene, and the male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, received treatment at Cavan General Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
A suspect vehicle is understood to have been lifted by gardaí. It was found abandoned in a local estate.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cavan Garda Station on 049-4368800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or any garda station.
It was one of several dangerous driving incidents to come to the attention of local gardaí last Bank Holiday weekend, including one incident in which a motorist was clocked travelling at 209kmph at Daggan on the N3 outside Butlersbridge - more than double the legal speed limit for the road.
A Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoint in Arva meanwhile saw a car stop short, and it was soon established the driver was disqualified and an arrest was made. The car was detained under Section 41 Road Traffic Act and the driver is charged to the District Court.
A report of erratic driving led to another driver being arrested in the Cloverhill area on suspicion of drunk driving. They too have now been charged and face a date in court.
Other detections by the Cavan Roads Policing Unit include speeding offences, driving while holding a mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt. Fixed Charge Penalty Notices have issued in these cases.
